Self Love Journaling Prompts for Kids Under 10

Kids under ten are still learning how to describe what they feel, what they like, and what makes them special. Big emotions show up in little bodies, and sometimes they just need a safe way to express what’s going on inside.

As a parent, teacher, or caregiver, you don’t need to “teach” self love. You can create room for it. All it takes is a few questions, a little patience, and time where the child feels seen and safe.

Gentle Self Love Journaling Prompts for Kids Under 10

Here are some prompts you can ask, one at a time. Let the child take the lead. Some might make them smile. Others might bring up something deeper. Just stay close and listen.

  1. What’s something nice you want to tell yourself today?
  2. Draw your favorite part of your body and why you like it
  3. Make a picture showing how you feel when someone gives you a compliment
  4. Draw yourself doing something kind
  5. Create a picture of your "happy place"
  6. Draw what makes you special and different from others
  7. Color a picture of something you learned how to do
  8. What’s your favorite thing to do when you feel a little sad?
  9. Draw a heart and fill it with things you love about yourself.
  10. Make a picture of your favorite way to play.

A Note for Grownups

Kids remember more than we think. The way we speak to them becomes the way they speak to themselves. When they learn to write about what they like in themselves, they’re building a soft, steady kind of strength.

They don’t need to love themselves perfectly—what matters is giving them permission to feel, to be curious, and to speak kindly to themselves, one page at a time.
