Boundaries Journaling Prompts for Teens - PleaseNotes

It’s hard to speak up when you’re still figuring out what feels okay to you. You might laugh things off, stay quiet when something crosses a line, or go along with things just to avoid awkward moments. But just because you don’t call it out doesn’t mean it sits right with you.

These prompts aren’t here to help you notice patterns, question habits, and feel more certain about the limits that already live inside you.

10 Boundaries Journaling Prompts for Teens

  1. When did I last agree to something I didn’t actually want to do? Why did I say yes?

  2. What’s something I’ve let slide more than once, but still bothers me?

  3. What’s a time I felt proud of myself for saying no? What helped me do it?

  4. Are there people who talk over me, push me, or ignore my feelings? How do I usually respond?

  5. What does it feel like in my body when something doesn’t feel okay?

  6. Do I ever worry that I’ll lose friends if I’m more honest? Where does that fear come from?

  7. Where in my life do I feel most drained or overwhelmed? What boundary might help?

  8. What’s a situation where I stayed quiet, but wish I’d spoken up?

  9. Do I treat my time and energy like they matter? Why or why not?

  10. What would it feel like to put my needs first just once this week?

Two Different Things Can Be True

You can care about people and still need space. You can want to be liked and still say no. You can make mistakes and still learn to hold your own. These things aren’t opposites—they just exist together.

Your teen years are when you start figuring out who you are and what you want from life. Setting boundaries helps protect this process of self-discovery. The better you get at recognizing your limits and communicating them clearly, the healthier your relationships will be—now and in the future.
