The Juicy Stuff

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of joy to the greatest amount of people, what would that be?

1. I believe in a world where little girls are raised by parents who prioritize themselves and love themselves at every stage, who embrace their bodies and everything they can do and stop the cycle of body and self loathing.

2. To help women step into who they have always meant to be and give themselves the permission to chase big scary dreams, and teach their kids how to do the same.

3. To diversify the face and body of the wellness industry

How did you get into your line of work and why are you passionate about it?

I started with my own journey when I was 12 weeks post partum after a very traumatic pregnancy, birth & delivery. Nora almost died, and I went 9 months with an undiagnosed heart condition because as a plus size pregnant women, doctors didn’t think to investigate sooner. They assumed my symptoms were because of my weight.

I was struggling with PPD and PDA and I knew I needed to fight for myself and how I wanted to feel. I knew that my daughter didn’t ask to be be born to a mom who didn’t feel like her body was her own and if I wanted to give Nora the mon she deserved I needed to fight. So I did. Mental Health is so connected to physical movement and physical health. Fighting for my health helped me claw my way back to myself and evolve into a better version of myself.

What is a quote that made an impact on you? How did it come into your life and how do you use it?

“Still I Rise.” - Maya Angelou

It reminds me of the power that we have inside of us, even if we don’t always feel it or see it.

What piece of advice would you give the 2012 version of you? Why?

You matter. You are worth time, energy, and support. What feels impossible to overcome, isn’t. You are strong enough.

What activities do you do for self-care and mindfulness?

  • Meditation, morning journaling & visualization of goals and vision
  • Gratitude
  • Affirmations
  • Personal development reading

What was situation that made you stronger? How did you make your way through it?

Fighting to take my life back. Starting to make myself a priority during a time when usually mothers loose themselves in their newborns. Therapy and working through years of childhood trauma and realizing that I am worth my own work.

When you're feeling unsure of yourself, what do you do to realign yourself?

Remind myself of where I’ve come from and everything that I have  overcome. I try to stay in “gain” and not in the “gap”. I reevaluate if my self care or self parenting has wavered recently and do an audit of the work I’m doing on myself.

What do you want your legacy to be?

Help women step into their own power & who they have always been meant to be; to diversify the face and body of the wellness industry; and to impact future lives of children by helping them have mothers who prioritize and parent themselves first in order to give their kids the best versions of themselves.
